| PFHA Board of Directors Meeting January 19, 2007 |
| The reports from the committees and the relevant motions and discussions are summarized below: |
|
Amateur Owner Committee The A/O Committee put together a new set of criteria for the nomination of Amateur Owner of the Year Award. They also wanted to change the name of the award to A/O Achievement Award. The Committee felt, and rightly so, that there are many members who do a lot for the PFHA but who do not show and they would like to include these members in their programs. After much discussion about the purpose of this committee, which by definition is to deal with the amateur owners in the show ring as this is the only place where there are amateur owners, the motion to change the name of the award was withdrawn. However, to try to encompass the "non professional owners" who do not show and to bring them into the programs of the PFHA, a "Recreational Rider Committee" was formed on an ad hoc basis to research what is needed in the organization to draw in these members. Kelly Ireland was placed in charge of this committee. The A/O Committee is working on an information packet for the Amateur Owner newcomer. It will include all the programs available to the A/O along with tips, checklists, basic information and where in the PFHA rulebook information regarding show rules and approved equipment can be found. The initial packet should be ready by the April 2007 Board Meeting. |

Communications Committee This Committee is working with the Marketing Committee on trying to improve the design and function of the PFHA website. They are also working with the Marketing Committee on the PFHW and the farm "infomercials". A proposed fee structure and guidelines have been submitted to the Executive Director. The Committee has sent a request to each Regional President to search for a volunteer "reporter" who will seek out interesting and informative or educational articles and stories for the PFHW. The regional reporters do not necessarily have to write these articles themselves but can search out stories of interest or expertise from the regional members. This reporter is in addition to our regional news reporter who submits our regional news each month to the PFHW. With all these articles and stories, the Committee would like to develop an "Article Library Bank" to draw from each month for the PFHW. |
|
Education and Clinic Committee In conjunction with the Judges and Stewards Committee, seven PFHA officials have been identified and have accepted to be peer reviewers. The Peer Review form and protocol has been finalized and this program has been implemented. |

Events Committee This Committee put forth a motion to rescind the $15 amateur and $100 professional show fee. This motion passed so no fees will be charged. They also put forth a tie-breaking system for the High Point Specialty Horse of the Grand National Show. This system passed. If you are interested in seeing it, please ask me for it. This committee put forth three options for the Fabulous Futurity at the Grand National Show. The third option passed which is a combination of (1) a nominating system starting when a horse is a weanling and paying into the futurity each year and (2) the annual Futurity auction held at the Grand National Show for those owners who would like to sell their Futurity nominated two year olds. These rules will be published in the PFHW but if you would like them in detail, please ask me. |
