The Mason Dixon Paso Fino Horse Association, Inc.
The Mason Dixon Paso Fino Horse Association was incorporated in 1987. The region includes the states of New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Maryland and West Virginia. This regional association has experienced considerable growth in recent years and continues to expand its support to both the PFHA and Paso Fino owners within the region.
Mason Dixon’s activities continue to grow and expand with its membership. The Region’s largest Show, held at the Lexington Virginia Horse Center every year, has grown successfully enough to award cash winnings for many classes. The Breeders’ Futurity held in conjunction with the show is an additional program that enables exhibitors and stallion owners to earn additional monies with their horses.
Besides our large show in June in Lexington Virginia, the Region has a pointed show in May and it participates in Paso Fino classes at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in October.
Mason Dixon also sponsors many clinics throughout the year including a couple tailored to the youth that include class auditing at the regional shows with discussion for each youth so they can improve their ride for the next day.
Thanks to many dedicated members, Mason Dixon is able to proudly represent and promote the breed each winter at both the Maryland Horse World Expo and the Pennsylvania Horse World Expo. Dedicated volunteers man our Mason Dixon booth which showcases the versatility of the breed through pictures, videos, and brochures. Our professional trainers are there to answer questions about training, tack, and the qualities of the breed. We also participate in the “Parade of Breed” demonstrations in order to educate the public about the breed. We demonstrate fino, performance, and pleasure class horses along with versatility and western class horses.
Where and when ever possible the members of Mason Dixon do not hesitate to promote the breed by participating in equine demonstrations and clinics, parades, and provide open houses for the public. We have an Ambassador of the Breed program where owners invite prospective buyers to come and test drive the Paso Fino. One ride usually brings out the “Paso Smile” from the rider and seals the deal.
Mason Dixon has an active trail riding program that includes many scheduled rides, in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland. There is an awards program in place where trail riders log their hours towards winning annual awards. This Region has many members devoted to promoting the breed through trail riding and competitive trail events.
Our association sincerely desires to represent all of the region’s Paso Fino people and provide a sound support system that will increase breed related activity for our members. Our primary communication tool is our newsletter, the Power Glide, which is published every two months on our website at http://www.masondixonpfha.org/ If you are visiting our region please let us know if we can assist
